FAQ;s.png

What time should I arrive? Please arrive NO LATER than 30 minutes prior to tour time! We want to ensure all guests are briefed in all safety measures and have time to get ready for their tour!

Is there a weight limit for the bikes? Yes, there is a 300 lbs. weight limit per rider per seat for safety reasons. Our bikes run the risk of derailment with weights in excess of 300lbs in each chair.

Are there bathrooms available? Yes! We do have bathrooms available at our station in Hawley and at the turn-around on your tour.

How does the waitlist work? Our waitlist allows customers to sign up to be notified when a seat for a fully-booked activity becomes available! PA Railbike will contact YOU if a bike becomes available and you have supplied a correct phone number to be reached at. We will NOT leave a message due to high waitlist demand, so please make sure to keep your phone handy! Please also keep in mind that we will NOT charge your card unless you have been moved onto a bike.

Is there room to take drinks or snack on the bike? Yes! Each of our bikes are equipped with a basket which is large enough to fit snacks and drinks. At the turnaround spot on our tour (about 5 miles in) we have a clearing in the woods with space to stretch your legs along with picnic tables to enjoy your snacks and drinks.

Who needs to sign the waivers? Every person in the party MUST sign a waiver. Minors must have a legal adult sign for them - this is a checkbox within the waiver that must be followed accordingly. Everyone in the party must have a waiver completed for being on railroad property.

What is your cancellation/refund policy? Customers will receive a full refund or credit with 72 hours’ notice of cancellation - YOU MUST CALL OUR TICKET OFFICE FOR A REFUND! Customers will also receive a full refund or credit in case of operator cancellation due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. No-shows will be charged the full price.

What if it rains? Our tours run in rain or shine (unless dangerous weather conditions are occurring or imminent based on the judgment of tour guides). If a tour is cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions, guests will have the opportunity to receive a refund, rebook their tour or be issued a gift card for future use.

Is it safe for children? Yes! Our custom made railbikes are easy to ride and come with seat belts (which are required to be worn) as well as hand controlled brakes. Children must be accompanied by a rider at least 16 years of age to operate the brakes. Each guest must be secured in their own seat with a seatbelt. The only exception is infants, who must be secured in a chest harness to an adult rider. CHEST HARNESSES ARE NOT PROVIDED. Infants in a chest harness travel free. Younger children may not be able to reach the pedals but can be safely buckled in to enjoy the ride. Children are NOT permitted to be seated on your lap and this is strictly forbidden.

Will I encounter a train while on a Pennsylvania Rail Bike tour? No. Delaware Lackwaxen and Stourbridge Railroad (DLS) and Pennsylvania Rail Bike share a common computerized scheduling system and any operational conflicts are worked out by DLS and Pennsylvania Rail Bike before and during the season to ensure the train and the rail bikes are separated. With a handful of known exceptions, the trains run west of Hawley station and the rail bikes run east of Hawley station so the two are moving away from each other.

I have a question or concern. Whom can I communicate with? Feel free to call us at (570) 229-2147 or email us at info@PArailbike.com

What other safety precautions have been taken? Pennsylvania Rail Bike staff have attended training sessions organized by Delaware Lackwaxen and Stourbridge Railroad (DLS) to train on operating and safety rules written and enforced by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) which require annual re-certification. The staff attending your ride is mainly Pennsylvania Rail Bike staff but DLS crew members are also present to escort your excursion to ensure railroad safety rules are followed especially at the few road / rail grade crossings in the route. Staff members will provide protection at these crossings to halt road traffic to allow the rail bike tour to safely pass. All bikes are equipped with a seat belt which MUST always be worn while riding along with brakes. In addition, all tours will be equipped with basic first aid along with an AED should a cardiac event occur while on the tour.
